Cannes- KBS and Japanese pubcaster NHK are co-producing Asian Corridor in Heaven, an HD documentary on Caravan Road the ancient trade route for tea and horses. The deal was formalized on April 16 at MIPTV, for production of the 6 X 60min series which is expected to be completed by autumn of 2007.
The documentary will be a foreign look into Caravan Road as a trade route for Chinese tea and Tibetan horses, and an intersection of culture, religion, language and people which is protected by UNESCO as a world natural heritage site. The 5,000km route begins in Sichuan and Yunnan provinces in Southwest China, and stretches over the Himalayas to Tibet, Myanmar and Indonesia.
KBS invested US$3.6 million and spent 2 years producing the documentary. Asian Corridor in Heaven follows the companies’ collaboration for Silk Road in 2005. The HD series will be broadcast on KBS-1 TV in September 2007 and on NHK HD channel in January 2008. The series will also be available internationally in December 2007.
