Beijing- China Mobile has signed a deal with China Radio International (CRI) to cooperate on mobile television service, using China Mobile’s GSM network platform and CRI’s content, which includes Olympics programs co-produced by Beijing TV Station and CRI. CRI is the third organization in mainland China to be granted a mobile television business license by China’s State Administration of Radio Film and Television (SARFT), following Shanghai Media Group and CCTV International. In 2005, China Mobile started trial operations and deployment of a mobile TV business structured on streaming media. The company has logged more than 250,000 streams this year, according to market research company Entertainment Asia Network Inc. In early August, China Mobile released two mobile phone models tailored for mobile TV coverage of Olympics programs. In the first half of 2007, China’s mobile phone user base exceeded 500 million. Industry analysts predict that in 2008 there will be 50 million subscribers to mobile TV services, Entertainment Asia reported.
