Seoul- Korean telco and broadband operator KT announced Sept. 4 that its pre-IPTV service, Mega TV, will be available nationwide to its 6.5 million Megapass broadband subscribers. The company had been offering test services in Seoul and surrounding regions. Mega TV provides VOD and interactive TV services including an electronic program guide, but not real time broadcasting as in a full IPTV service due to regulatory limitations. Programming includes movies, sports, culture, animation, documentaries, drama and educational shows. Research conducted during the pilot phase indicated 84% of targeted customers are keen to take up the service. Lee Young-hui, chief of KT’s media business, noted that Mega TV was ready and promotional campaigns will be launched to help customers “distinguish it from traditional TV.”
