Doha, Qatar- Al Jazeera English has achieved a global viewer footprint of 100 million homes just one year since its launch, and is targeting broad distribution in the US and deeper penetration in India and key markets worldwide. Phil Lawrie has been hired as Director of Global Distribution to spearhead the effort. Although Al Jazeera English is carried by major cable and satellite operators worldwide, new carriage deals for conventional platforms continue to be struck, most recently with Indonesian DTH service provider Astro Indonesia. Expanding into new media including the Internet, IPTV and mobile technologies, Al Jazeera English’s dedicated channel on YouTube has proven popular with US and international viewers. Abdullah Al Najjar, Commercial Director of Al Jazeera Network said, “The US, as well as India and China, represent the next stage in our global distribution efforts.”
