Kuala Lumpur – ESPN STAR Sports will organize the second edition of KL World 5’s, an international futsal tournament where 10 of the world’s top teams compete for a prize of US$150,000 at Malaysia’s first indoor stadium, Stadium Negara, from Jan. 29 – Feb. 3 2008. The competition will also air across Asia on STAR Sports with over 100 hours of coverage, comprising 30 telecast hours, including 20 hours of live programming. Played like soccer but by 5-man teams, KL World 5’s will feature teams from Malaysia, Iran, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Holland and England. The tournament is a collaborative effort between ESPN STAR Sports and the Ministry of Youth and Sports to bring international sporting events to Malaysia. ESPN STAR Sports and the Ministry of Youth and Sports signed a multi-year strategic alliance in October 2005 to raise participation and interest in sport across Malaysia. The partners have organized KL World 5’s in 2003, Asian X Games in Kuala Lumpur in 2002-2004 and 2006, broadcast the new Malaysian edition of SportsCenter in Apr 2007 as well as the Guinness 9 Ball Tour in Genting Highlands in June 2007.
