Singapore – Irdeto, provider of content security for digital TV, IPTV and mobile networks, received its largest order of two million smart cards from China’s Jilin Provincial Network to support the cable TV operator’s digital migration project. Jilin Provincial Network provides cable TV services to subscribers from all cities and municipalities within Jilin Province in China and has three million registered subscribers. It is an existing customer of Irdeto’s Digital TV Solution, a platform-independent CA system which allows operators to scale up their subscriber base while ensuring content and revenue protection. The latest order is also the first VOD CA deal for Irdeto in China. Under the agreement, the two million smart cards will be delivered over the next two and a half years. According to Media Partners Asia, China has 140 million cable subscribers as at 2006 and has forecast that that to grow to 184 million by 2011. Digital cable TV subscribers are expected to grow from 10 to 61 million over the same period.
