Jakarta – The Indonesian government has extended the deadline to 28 December 2009 for national television stations to build networks with local TV stations by selling part of their shares to the regional broadcasters. Information and Communications Minister, Muhammad Nuh, said the government had to extend the deadline because two years was insufficient time to provide technical regulations to implement the 2002 Broadcasting Law, which mandates the establishment of the networks. However, a member of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) described both reviews as irrelevant excuses to justify the deadline extension. He said the deadline extension showed the government’s partiality to national TV stations.
