Al Jazeera and VTC Digital Television have signed a deal to launch Al Jazeera English in Vietnam. The news and current affairs channel will be available to 2million households throughout Vietnam on Channel 9 of VTC’s digital terrestrial service offered by Vietnam Multimedia Corporation (VMC), a subsidiary of Vietnam’s Ministry of Information and Communications. VMC’s vice CEO Le Van Khuong said, “(VTC Digital Television is) using all-digital technology from production to distribution to broadcast, so viewers can receive more channels of higher quality and more interactive services.” The carriage deal with VTC furthers Al Jazeera English’s global distribution which has already exceeded the 100 million households mark since it was launched in November 2006. Al Jazeera English is the first English language world news and current affairs channel headquartered in the Middle East, in Doha, Qatar, with broadcast centres in Kuala Lumpur, London and Washington DC.
