Kuala Lumpur – MTV Networks Asia is bringing back its MTV Asia Awards (MTVAA) – set to take place at the Arena of Stars in Genting – City of Entertainment, Malaysia on August 2, 2008, to be hosted by 30 Seconds to Mars’ Jared Leto. MTVAA 2008 will be broadcast to over 291million homes regionally, and promoted on MTV Asia’s web-site. Portions of the programme will be carried on MTV channels worldwide to be available to more than 1billion viewers across 162 countries. The event will feature five live performing acts with two to three songs each, as 16 awards are presented to honour and promote youth culture and music including nine regional artiste kudos and seven international awards. 10 awards will be open to viewers’ votes from June 14, 2008, via multiple media platforms. The show also includes the “So You Wanna Be A Presenter” contest where local viewers submit videos online for the chance to present the nominees at MTVAA. Confirmed regional partners include edc by Esprit, Tourism Malaysia, Genting – City of Entertainment and local sponsor Xpax in Malaysia. The pan-regional music event’s sixth showing comes after a year’s break – having last been held May 6 2006 at the Siam Paragon in Bangkok, Thailand. And July 26, 2006 saw the inaugural MTV Asia Movie Awards postponed ‘due to scheduling issues’.
