Multilingual video streaming site Viki has agreed a multi-year strategic partnership with China’s Huala Baina Film & TV (HBN) that will give it access to hundreds of Chinese dramas.
Series such as The Dream of Red Mansions and We Love You, Mr. Jin will now be available to Viki’s global base of users, who subtitle content into multiple different languages themselves.
Viki attracts almost 40 million viewers per month, the company claims. Financial details of the deal, which was signed yesterday at a ceremony at Viki’s offices in Shanghai, were not disclosed.
“We wish HBN drama can be well known not only among Chinese audiences but also on the international market. Viki is a global new-media platform that can help HBN fulfil this blueprint,” said Liu Dehong, general manager of HBN.
Chen Jiayong, vice-general manager of HBN, added, “This strategic partnership is another important step that HBN takes to explore the overseas market and practice its mission to introduce Chinese culture to the world.”
