Hong Kong – Tandberg Television announced its leading role in the delivery of HD and SD television feeds to a potential worldwide audience of 4 billion for the Beijing 2008 Games. It is providing a range of MPEG-4 AVC and MPEG-2 compression equipment and professional receivers to a number of major broadcast organizations across the globe including the Host Broadcaster, EBU and Televisa. The Beijing Games, which commenced on August 8, are the first Games to be fully broadcast in high-definition. The 2008 Games are also attracting more television coverage than ever, with the organizers predicting over 5,000 hours of coverage, up from 3,800 during the Athens Games in 2004. There will be 1,000 cameras conveying this summer’s sports action to 220 countries/territories. “With an estimated 4 billion potential viewers and 5,000 hours of coverage, the Beijing Games represent the pinnacle of broadcast television, live television and sports broadcasting rolled into one,” comments Dario Choi, VP and general manager of Tandberg Television Asia Pacific. “With so much fast-moving live action and color, this event was made for HDTV. As the recognized leader in HD video compression and content distribution we are honored to be playing such a central role in making these Games the first to be fully broadcast in high-definition.”
