Israel’s Channel 2 Reshet has picked up the format to The Amazing Race (TAR) which is distributed internationally by Disney ABC International Television (DAIT). To be produced in the Hebrew language by Asia-based active TV, the show’s Hebrew title translates literally as ‘Race to a Million’ and is currently in pre-production. The show is expected to air early 2009, and will also be distributed by DAIT. The Amazing Race Asia (TARA) was the first ever international version of the format which has also been produced in Brazil. TARA 3 has just completed filming, with the Racers Revealed show airing early September and the new season premiering across the region September 11 2008 on Sony Pictures Entertainment Networks Asia’s AXN channel. active TV’s Michael McKay confirmed that a version of TAR is being produced in Hebrew for the Israeli market. “I thought we’d stayed beneath the radar with this one, but what I will say is that this is a prime example of Asian-based production talent exporting elsewhere in the world. Having produced 3 seasons of TARA, outside of the US we have a lot of expertise on this property – and most of our crew are from Asia.” The budget for Race to a Million is believed to be multi-million dollar, costing more than TARA. Asked about advertiser integration and support, McKay said the finding model has to be very different to TARA, due to regulations prohibiting significant product integration.
