Los Angeles – Comcast International Media Group (CIMG), a key division of Comcast Corporation, and SBS, one of Korea’s largest multiple program providers and the region’s only private broadcasting company with a nation-wide network, will launch a localized version of the popular E! Entertainment Television channel in Q1 2009. The announcement was made by CIMG President Kevin MacLellan and SBS MediaNet President & CEO Seongwan Hong. SBS will operate the new Korean language, pay TV network as the general entertainment and lifestyle channel E! Entertainment Television. The new channel will feature a combination of E! Entertainment Television’s signature Hollywood programming, combined with locally-produced E! formats covering Korean celebrities and entertainment news. “This is an exciting time in SBS’ evolution as a world class media group and we’re thrilled to be working with their talented team to create a new localized version of one of the global television industry’s most recognized brands,” said MacLellan. “Over many years now E! programming has developed a strong audience in Korea and at a time when the industry is set for increased digital investment and pay TV growth, we are certain that the arrival of a new, localized version E! Entertainment Television will be greatly appreciated by operators and viewers throughout the region.” This new deal marks the second major partnership between the two companies, following SBS International’s long standing agreement with Comcast-owned The Golf Channel. The deals with SBS MediaNet and SBS International were negotiated on behalf of CIMG by Christine Fellowes, Managing Director, Asia Pacific, CIMG.
