Mumbai – Representing the three founder member boards of the BCCI, Cricket Australia and Cricket South Africa, Lalit Modi, chairman, Champions League Twenty20 and Manu Sawhney, managing director, ESPN STAR Sports unveiled the new logo for the Champions League Twenty20. The logo unit will contain a unique brush stroke depicting the host nation – India. This interpretation of the logo will allow the host nation to promote the league in its own unique manner to optimize the opportunities that would evolve from this global cricketing extravaganza. At a media event in Mumbai, Modi also announced the three venues of Bangalore, Chennai and Mumbai, which will host the cricket extravaganza that will be held from 3-10 December 2008. Eight teams, including the reigning winners and runners-up from the domestic Twenty20 competitions in India (Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings), Australia (Western Australia Warriors and Victoria Bushrangers) and South Africa (Titans and Dolphins), plus the reigning Twenty20 champions from Pakistan (the tournament being held from October 4), and England Twenty20 Cup winners Middlesex will contest a US$6 million team prize pool in the 2008 Champions Twenty20 League. The tournament will be contested by 12 teams in year two between 25 September and 10 October 2009. The eight teams have been divided into two groups of four each and will initially play each other on a league basis. The top two teams will qualify for the semi-finals, with the winners of group A facing off against the runners-up of group B and vice versa, in the last four stage. The winners will then clash in the grand finale to be played in Mumbai on 10 December 2008.
