Singapore – Fremantle Productions is shifting its focus “to become production markets rather than just licensing” in four key markets in Asia Pacific – says business development manager Indriena Basarah. Most active for Fremantle is Indonesia, which is producing Indonesia Idol, Got Talent for 2009, Hole in the Wall, Thank God You’re Here, Password and All Star Athletics. China is a market about which managing director Patrick Schult is the most excited, having syndicated Family Feud nationally, set at 150 episodes with the option for 200 episodes. Advertising agency Mojo has picked up Project Runway; a second season of Soccer Prince is underway – with a letter of intent from Liverpool FC to offer the apprenticeship prize; and if Hole in the Wall’s pilot episode at Chinese New Year proves successful, it will go to a 40 episode series. In India, SET airs Idol, Hole in the Wall is with Pogo; Thank God You’re Here, All Star Athletics, To the Limit, Family Feud, Got Talent, Poker Face and Password are all in various stages of development with India’s slew of new general entertainment channels. Asked about the impact of the economic crisis, Schult says the impact has yet to be felt, “The Indian companies, for example, are still buying. They might not be spending quite as much, but they are buying nevertheless.”
