Bangkok/ Hong Kong/Singapore – MTV Networks in Asia, the MTV Europe Foundation and the US Agency for International Development (USAID) announced plans for events and concerts across Asia to raise awareness and increase prevention of human trafficking with the launch events taking place in Cambodia. The first of seven national campaigns in Asia, the Cambodian tour will include four events featuring famous local and international artists, with anti-trafficking organizations and government agencies distributing information about human trafficking. The other events and tours planned for 2009 will be announced later. The first two concerts will take place on November 22 at Ochheuteal Beach in Sihanoukville and on November 29 at the Football Stadium in Kampong Cham. A highlight of the Cambodian campaign will be a concert held at Angkor Wat, the UNESCO World Heritage Site, on December 7. The concert will feature US-band The Click Five, winner of the Knockout Award at the recent MTV Asia Awards, with other artists to be announced shortly. The final concert will be held at Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh on December 12 in recognition of Cambodia’s National Day to Combat Human Trafficking. The four on-the-ground concerts will provide content for a series of television programs produced by MTV EXIT (End Exploitation and Trafficking) to be broadcast in Cambodia and on MTV channels internationally. These specials will combine concert footage, interviews with the bands, NGOs and other activists about the dangers of trafficking, as well as clips from MTV EXIT’s other anti-trafficking programming, including documentaries, animated works and short films.
