Hong Kong – STAR announced the appointment of Cheah Chee Kong as its executive vice president, Chinese language programming. Cheah (aka CheeK) will officially join STAR on 5 January 2009, and will be based in Hong Kong, reporting to Laureen Ong, STAR’s chief operating officer. CheeK, who has 17 years of creative, production, directorial and programming experience under his belt, will be responsible for overseeing the development of STAR’s Chinese language channels including Xing Kong and Star Chinese Movies. Malaysia-born CheeK, is a film maker and television executive who throughout his career has worked all over Asia and has been based in Singapore, Taiwan, Beijing and Tokyo. He has made several award winning short films and full length features, notably Chicken Rice War which received the Discovery Award at the 2001 Toronto International Film Festival. CheeK joins STAR from MTV Japan, where he has served as senior vice president, creative director, creative & content since 2006.
