Bangladesh – The government is considering ratification of the Right to Information Ordinance promulgated by the immediate past caretaker government, said Information Minister Abul Kalam Azad in parliament. The minister said a number of applications for satellite TV channel licences have already been submitted to the government. “We are thinking about giving permission to some satellite TV channels and newspapers to ensure free flow of information and competition,” added the information minister. He said the government is also considering bringing amendments to the policy of 1998 on setting up and operating satellite television channel to make it more appropriate for the time and the channels more people-oriented.
