Taipei – A study has revealed Taiwan’s university students spend an average of five hours each day on the internet and become anxious without their cellular phones. The study by National Chengchi University (NCCU) showed that university students spend even more time on the internet on weekends – up to six hours per day. Seventy percent of university students have personal blogs, with more than 50 percent of them spending nearly an hour everyday, and about 20 percent up to three hours, looking through various blog sites, according to the study. The study also discovered university students’ dependence on MSN Messenger, cell phones and Short Message Service (SMS) as the majority of students use MSN Messenger to build friendships, use cell phones to contact family and SMS to speak to partners. The study was conducted online late last year with a sample of 8,700 students from NCCU, Shih Hsin University and National Chiao Tung University.
