After months of work, involving especially the creation of sets, development of characters, reading of chapters, and cast preparation, Globo’s new prime time telenovela in Brazil, A Regra do Jogo, begins to take shape. Shooting started at the end of May on location in Rio de Janeiro, city where the story unfolds. The plot is written by João Emanuel Carneiro, author of the worldwide phenomenon Brazil Avenue – Globo’s licensing blockbuster hit, with broadcasting rights sold to more than 130 countries.
A Regra do Jogo is a contemporary telenovela, which has suspense, love, and humour as its strengths, and promises to delight Brazil – and the rest of the world. The telenovela will be launched on the international market in 2016 and Globo has already started pre-sales of the content overseas.
The protagonist of this story is Romero Rômulo (Alexandre Nero, Empire and Looks & Essence). A former politician and a hero of the people, Romero’s specialty is to reintegrate marginalised people, especially ex-offenders, into society. He is a man of simple habits, but his life is less obvious than it appears to be.
A Regra do Jogo will handle realistically the boundary between right and wrong, good and evil. How far can you go to get what you want? Are individuals the result of their environments? The characters’ paths address issues involving, primarily, ethics, values, and their limits.
Technical novelties and a modern, unique insight into the interaction between actors will help establish an even more intimate relationship with the audience, as an invitation to bring it even closer to the story. The first month of shooting has generated action sequences, emotional and comic scenes, revealing dialogs, surprising meetings, and stunning images.
The story features a star-studded cast: Giovanna Antonelli (The Clone and Brave Woman), Susana Vieira, Vanessa Giácomo, and Bárbara Paz (all from Trail of Lies), Cauã Reymond (Brazil Avenue), Tony Ramos (The Party), Marco Pigossi (Gabriela), and Renata Sorrah (Her Own Destiny), among others.
