Taipei – Taiwan’s Government Information Office (GIO) says it is lifting a ban on Chinese actors and directors making TV dramas on the island. This has significant implications for both countries’ drama production, creating opportunities for much-anticipated collaborations between China and Taiwan. 25 television dramas per year are expected to be co-created by China and Taiwan in the wake of this announcement. With immediate effect, Chinese actors, directors, producers, scriptwriters and technicians are allowed to apply to work on the island, GIO said. There are however some restrictions in order to protect Taiwanese jobs. The number of Chinese on any one project should not exceed a third of the overall crew; Taiwanese staff should account for at least a third; and post-production must take place in Taiwan.
