Six-part co-production Wild China has won three awards at this year’s Emmy’s. A BBC / CTV / Travel Channel co-production in association with Canal+, Wild China picked up awards for Outstanding Editing, Outstanding Cinematography Nature Documentaries, Outstanding Music and Sound The series is a partnership between the BBC’s Natural History Unit and China Television Media (CTV), the (commercial) production arm of Chinese state broadcaster, CCTV. This partnership provided the joint production team access to some of China’s remotest reaches and most visually stunning scenery. Shot entirely in High Definition, Wild China takes viewers on a journey through the diverse landscapes of China, including the ancient Han kingdom, the Mongol steppes and Uygur desert, the Silk Road, and the Tibetan Plateau. Having aired on the Travel Channel in the US, Wild China has been licensed to over 50 broadcasters around the world, include Asia Pacific sales to ABC, Sky NZ, Discovery India, TVB, Tokyo Broadcasting, KBS and PTS. HBO, meanwhile, received 21 awards this year. Emmy-winning fare already airing on HBO channels in Asia include True Blood, Generation Kill and Entourage. Grey Gardens, Into the Storm, Taking Chance and House of Saddam are “to premiere very soon in 2010”. Sony Pictures Television was quick to congratulate Glenn Close, Bryan Cranston and Michael J. Fox; they won Emmys for Damages, Breaking Bad and Rescue Me respectively. And STAR World, part of Fox International Channels Asia, celebrated wins for Two and a Half Men and 30 Rock; STAR World will subsequently be screening a 30 Rock marathon in the region.
