Thailand – Leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) launched the bloc’s first satellite TV channel in Hua Hin, Thailand, on October 23. The 24-hour channel is designed to present regional news, information, culture, tourism and sports in the native language of each country with English subtitles, said the Thai Prime Minister’s Office Minister Sathit Wongnongtoey. This channel will be an important tool in strengthening relations and exchanging culture among the ten ASEAN countries and to link their people together, said Sathit. The Thai government and the Mass Communication Organisation of Thailand (MCOT) would jointly operate and provide funding for the TV channel.
