Throughout the fiscal year ended December 31, 2009, Jupiter Telecommunications Co., Ltd. (J:COM) continued to face fierce competition from major telecommunications and other rival companies in the broadcasting and telecommunication service markets. Taking into consideration the aforementioned operating conditions and J:COM Group endeavors, the total number of subscribing households as of December 31, 2009 rose by 107,400 (3%) to 3,274,800 households. Cable television subscribers grew by 41,600 (2%) to 2,598,600 households. Of this total, the number of J:COM TV Digital subscribers rose by 351,400 (18%) to 2,348,400 households, accounting for 90% of all cable television subscribers as compared to 78% at December 31, 2008. The number of high-speed Internet access and telephony services subscribers increased by 98,100 (7%) and 193,300 (12%), respectively, rising to 1,584,900 households and 1,763,100 households, respectively. ARPU slightly declined by ¥63 to ¥7,726, due mainly to the inclusion of newly acquired systems. However, excluding the impact of newly acquired systems, ARPU increased ¥30, to ¥7,819. Total revenue for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2009 amounted to ¥333,724 million, a year-on-year increase of 13%. Operating income climbed 14% to ¥61,159 million.
