Singapore – BBC Worldwide Channels (BBCWC) has acquired the final series of award winning chat show The Jonathan Ross Show for BBC Entertainment, to be premiered first and exclusively in Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea and India in February 2010. The episodes will be shown on BBC Entertainment six weeks after the UK screening. Joining Ross for the first episode of the final series are Ray Winstone, Arlene Phillips, Catherine Tate and Pixie Lott. Alicia Keys, Shahrukh Khan and Kim Cattrall are among other famous faces due to appear on subsequent episodes of the show. But the end of 2009 saw the end of BBC Entertainment’s carriage on Astro in Malaysia. In Asia, the channel is currently available in Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea and India. BBCWC’s spokesperson said, “We are obviously disappointed that viewers in Malaysia no longer have access to BBC Entertainment on Astro now that our contract with the cable operator has ended. We remain committed to bringing our BBC-branded channels to subscribers in Malaysia and we are actively working on providing our great content there, and will let you know as soon as we can announce it.” End May 2009, BBC Entertainment’s contract with Thailand’s True Visions was not renewed, and the channel was replaced by Nickleodeon. It is believed that True wanted to exchange for another channel brand such as BBC Knowledge or BBC Lifestyle, at the same price as they were paying for BBC Entertainment. The year before, BBC Entertainment’s carriage on StarHub was thought be in jeopardy when the channel was omitted from the new packaging, but that issue was resolved. BBCWC subsequently brought its other channel brands over to StarHub from SingTel mio TV.
