According to a survey conducted in December on behalf of the Commerce and Economic Development, the number of households receiving digital television in Hong Kong rose by more than 40% during 2009. Around 46.5% of families, some 1.06 million households, currently receive digital terrestrial television. Take up has been growing steadily on the back of expansion in the digital coverage areas of free-to-air channels Asia Television (ATV) and Television Broadcasts (TVB). DTT at present reaches 85% of the population and is expected to cover all of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region by 2012.
