One year after introducing the media and entertainment industry’s first mobile production truck purpose-built around ARRI Alexa 35 Live camera systems, TNDV is celebrating a milestone year for Aspiration 35, a production platform that has quickly established itself as a premier solution for cinematic multi-camera broadcasts, live entertainment productions and theatrical concert films.
Since its debut last summer, Aspiration 35 has supported an impressive range of high-profile productions, beginning with the nationally televised Stand Up To Cancer® fundraising special, continuing with the production of KIDZ BOP Live: The Concert Movie, released in theaters earlier this year, and most recently delivering cinematic live coverage of the Unity Concert for America, the July 4th celebration commemorating America’s 250th anniversary in Philadelphia broadcast locally on WPVI-TV.
The truck’s early success reflects not only TNDV’s decades of live production expertise, but also the strength of its strategic partnership with Nashville-based dbV Rentals, whose extensive inventory of ARRI camera systems, specialty cinema lenses and technical expertise has helped establish Aspiration 35 as a turnkey cinematic production solution for producers seeking the visual quality of feature films with the speed, reliability and flexibility of live television.
“When we introduced Aspiration 35, our goal wasn’t simply to build another production truck,” said Rob Devlin, President of TNDV. “We wanted to create a purpose-built cinematic production platform backed by the people, workflows and partnerships that allow clients to confidently tackle the industry’s most demanding productions. One year later, we’ve proven that vision across live network broadcasts, theatrical releases and large-scale concert productions.”
Its power was recently showcased during the Unity Concert for America, produced by ESM Productions in Philadelphia as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration. Aspiration 35 supported a sophisticated 10-camera ARRI Alexa 35 Live production featuring specialty camera positions, robotic systems and Fujinon Duvo lenses to capture performances from artists including Will Smith and The Roots. In addition to the WPVI broadcast, the TNDV team delivered the live broadcast across multiple streaming platforms while simultaneously delivering the rich cinematic aesthetic increasingly sought by today’s entertainment producers. TNDV separately deployed an additional broadcast camera to produce the in-house IMAG feed for audience-facing stage displays.
A Fresh Take on Mobile Production
Unlike traditional mobile production units designed primarily for sports and broadcast workflows, Aspiration 35 integrates native ARRI Alexa 35 Live multicamera systems with the complete infrastructure expected of a professional production truck, including camera shading, intercom, tally, return video and recording systems. The result is a seamless production environment that allows directors, producers and cinematographers to capture the cinematic depth, dynamic range and image quality of digital cinema while maintaining the speed and precision required for live multicamera productions.
TNDV’s partnership with dbV Rentals gives every Aspiration 35 production access to one of the industry’s most comprehensive inventories of cinema lenses and camera accessories, backed by experienced technical specialists who understand the unique requirements of digital cinema workflows.
“The technology is certainly important, but what really makes this partnership successful is the experience behind it,” said Doug Bates, Owner of dbV Rentals. “Rob and the TNDV team understand live production inside and out, while we bring decades of experience supporting cinematographers with the right camera systems and lens packages for every creative vision. Together we’ve created a workflow that gives clients confidence from the earliest planning stages through the final shot.”
Over its first year in service, Aspiration 35’s flexibility across a broad range of production environments. While its inaugural assignment, the Stand Up To Cancer® telecast, proved the truck could successfully support one of television’s highest-profile live network broadcasts, subsequent work on KIDZ BOP Live: The Concert Movie illustrated its ability to bridge traditional broadcast workflows with feature-quality motion picture production.
“Anyone can purchase cameras or build a truck,” Devlin added. “What ultimately determines success is the team behind it. Our engineers have spent more than two decades solving complex live production challenges, and when you combine that experience with Doug’s deep knowledge of digital cinema systems and optics, clients gain access to far more than equipment. They gain a complete production ecosystem built to deliver exceptional results.”
Looking ahead, TNDV expects demand for cinematic multicamera productions to continue growing as broadcasters, streaming services, concert producers and corporate event organizers increasingly seek feature-film image quality without sacrificing the efficiency and reliability of live television production.
“We’ve only scratched the surface of what’s possible,” Devlin said. “The last year has validated what we believed from the beginning, which is that cinematic multicamera production is no longer a niche workflow. It’s becoming the new standard for premium live entertainment, and we’re excited to continue helping producers bring those creative ambitions to life.”
