ITV Academy has announced the launch of its new Production Assistant traineeships, marking the first major rollout under its newly established Next Generation Programme.
These fully funded, nine-month placements will be hosted across five powerhouse ITV Studios labels: Bright Entertainment, ITV Sport, Multistory Media, The Garden, and Twofour.
Unlike traditional entry-level roles, this is a new multi-skilled, cross-functional role, offering a broad introduction to television production, combining classic production skills with an introduction to emerging tech like AI and virtual production. Working in real production and live environments, trainees will get involved in every stage of the process. On set and location, they will assist crews with studio operations, cameras, and lighting. In the office, trainees will support the creative teams by researching for programmes, helping with casting auditions, and keeping production paperwork organised. Finally, they will build their technical skills by learning to operate core media equipment, managing digital video assets for the edit teams, and explore how ITV’s centralised AI tools can streamline everyday production tasks.
Applications are now open via this link and will close on Tuesday 21st July at 11:59pm.
Sonny Hanley, Director, ITV Academy, said: “We are incredibly excited to launch the new Production Assistant traineeships, which represents the first new major rollout of the ITV Academy’s Next Generation Programme. This is a vital, fully-funded opportunity for fresh, entry-level talent. By designing these as multi-skilled, cross-functional roles, we are ensuring our trainees gain a comprehensive introduction to the entire production craft – from classic on-set operations to an introduction to emerging technology like AI and virtual production. This initiative is all about equipping the next generation with the diverse skill set needed to drive the future of the industry.”
The ITV Academy’s Next Generation Programme is an umbrella initiative dedicated to developing a diverse pipeline of new production talent through entry-level initiatives. Over the next 12 months, the programme will also feature:
-
Original Voices: A 12-week scheme that places aspiring writers within the Story & Writing teams for Coronation Street or Emmerdale. (Applications closed Thursday 2nd July).
-
Future Faces: A career-acceleration initiative that provides 10 high-potential, early-career participants with tailored technical training, a professional toolkit, and dedicated mentoring to secure their next industry role within 12 months.
-
First Credit: A fully funded initiative that places inexperienced talent into essential production roles, such as Runners or technical assistants, ensuring each participant leaves the scheme with practical experience and a recognised on-screen credit.
