Zinc Distribution has secured a raft of early international sales for Brexit: A Very British Civil War. The major new two-part documentary from Brook Lapping, a Zinc Media label, tells the inside story of the year that changed the course of British history and marks the tenth anniversary of the EU referendum.
Britain’s vote to leave the EU on 23rd June 2016 shocked the world. Brexit: A Very British Civil War explores how it happened, unravelling the rivalries, conflicts and betrayals that tore apart both campaigns. The series uncovers the meetings and conversations that took place behind-closed-doors at a time when careers and reputations were both made and destroyed.
The story is told only by those who were on the frontline of the campaign, inside the room when the key decisions were taken. The two-parter features interviews with key players involved including David Cameron, Boris Johnson, Nigel Farage, Michael Gove, George Osborne, Gordon Brown, Jeremy Corbyn, Marina Wheeler and Bob Geldof.
The 2 x 60′ series premiered on BBC Two on Monday 8 June at 9pm, with both episodes available on BBC iPlayer the same day. The launch attracted 800,000 viewers, representing an 8.3% audience share, and received strong critical acclaim, including a five-star review from The Telegraph and four-star reviews from The Guardian and the Financial Times.
Zinc Distribution had completed licensing agreements with BBC Select for North America, including Canada and the Caribbean, this deal was agreed by Sophie Judge, Senior Global Acquisitions Manager for BBC Global Channels. Additional licensing agreements include BBC News Arabic, BBC News Persian, BBC News Ukraine and BBC News Russia, and RTÉ in Ireland. Further broadcaster announcements are expected shortly, with discussions ongoing across multiple territories.
Alex Colebeck, Head of International Sales at Zinc Distribution, says: “This is a strong start for what will be a key title for Zinc Distribution this year. The Brexit story is one that shook Europe and the world to its core, and the strength of this programme does justice to explaining how Brexit happened. The access Brook Lapping secured was pivotal to delivering a truly world-class two-part documentary. We remain in active discussions with broadcasters worldwide for further acquisitions.”
