Serial Maven Studios, a next-generation studio and global distribution company, has acquired international distribution rights to Liberation: D-Day to Berlin (4 x 60’), a premium documentary series produced by Impossible Factual, further strengthening its international catalogue with a landmark historical title commissioned by two of the world’s most respected factual brands. Originally produced for National Geographic’s international channels, the series was produced in association with Paramount for the U.S. market, with a presale to SBS Australia, underscoring its international appeal ahead of global launch.
Liberation: D-Day to Berlin revisits the liberation of Western Europe and the fall of Nazi Germany through extraordinary restored and expertly colourised archival footage. Eighty years on from the end of World War II, the series delivers an emotionally immersive account of liberation, balancing heroism and tragedy, hope and despair, and revealing the true human cost of warfare with striking immediacy.
Through unrivalled restoration and colourisation of surviving archives, Liberation transports viewers into a defining moment in global history, offering perspectives from civilians, soldiers and societies forever changed. The result is a powerful, contemporary viewing experience that brings World War II in Western Europe vividly back to life.
“Across global markets, audiences are gravitating toward documentaries that provide context, perspective and truth, and history feels especially resonant right now,” said Solange Attwood, founder and CEO, Serial Maven Studios. “Liberation stands out for its historical clarity and cinematic craft. By restoring this archive so vividly, the series reminds us that history isn’t abstract. It’s lived, it’s human and its lessons continue to matter. We’re proud to be bringing a title of this calibre to buyers worldwide.”
Jonathan Drake, Executive Producer for Impossible Factual said, The painstaking research behind the restoration and colourisation of footage for this series, and brilliant work by our VFX partners at Gelato VFX has produced an extraordinarily immersive experience for the viewer that never sacrifices authenticity. It’s gripping and visceral storytelling that we hope will be a touchstone for years to come – and will continue to outshine AI imitations!
The acquisition underscores Serial Maven Studios’ strategy of curating premium, globally relevant factual programming for all platforms. Liberation: D-Day to Berlin joins its growing slate designed to meet sustained demand for ambitious history and current-affairs documentaries that travel across borders and resonate with audiences seeking deeper understanding of the world around them.
