All3Media International is heading to this year’s Asia TV Forum with a diverse collection of content and formats available, including acclaimed, star-studded new drama Trespasses, powerful, award-winning documentary Ocean with David Attenborough and global format phenomenon The Traitors.
Following its critically lauded debut on Channel 4 in the UK, Trespasses, an unforgettable love story set against the backdrop of the Troubles in 1970s Belfast, will be available to buyers at ATF. Starring Lola Petticrew, Tom Cullen and global icon Gillian Anderson, the 4 x 1 hr drama is produced by BAFTA award-winning and double Oscar-nominated Wildgaze Films (Brooklyn, An Education).
Keeley Hawes and Freddie Highmore star in hit action thriller The Assassin. The series follows a retired assassin whose past catches up with her in 6 x 1 hr, from the renowned Two Brothers Pictures for Prime Video, UK with co-producer ZDF, Germany and Stan, Australia. Playground Productions’ long-running family favourite All Creatures Great and Small – produced for Masterpiece, US and 5, UK – returns for a sixth series (7 x 1 hr) full of heartwarming tales set in the glorious Yorkshire Dales.
All3Media International will be the destination for a varied line-up of unscripted titles at ATF. Available for second window licensing opportunities is Ocean with David Attenborough (1½ hr, A Silverback Films and Open Planet Studios, co-produced by Arksen Films, Minderoo Pictures, National Geographic Society, Don Quixote Foundation, The Prince Albert II Monaco Foundation and Dynamic Planet, in association with All3Media International and National Geographic).
Delivering his more important message yet, the legendary broadcaster takes audiences on a journey of wonder through the planet’s most spectacular undersea habitats, whilst he also exposes the biggest problems facing our oceans and shares a story of hope for their recovery. His story is one of hope, and that in front of us is an opportunity for marine life to recover on a scale no one alive has ever seen before.
Also on the distributor’s unscripted slate is The Trial of Michael Jackson (4 x 1 hr, Wonderhood Studios for Channel 4, UK), a powerful forensic examination of the ‘trial of the century’ that, through exclusive access to unseen archive footage and interviews with contributors who have never spoken before, asks important questions about race, fame, journalistic ethics and the American justice system. One-off special The Moonies: Married to the Cult (1½ hr, Story Films for Prime Video, UK, in association with OMG) reveals the explosive truth behind the widely popular religious movement and features unprecedented access to insiders.
The award-winning My Otter Diary (1 hr, Aranya Parva Creations & Oxford Scientific Films) will also be spotlighted at ATF. The documentary special follows wildlife filmmaker and National Geographic explorer Sugandhi Gadadhar as she reveals a rare view of otter life, following a family living in one of India’s most rapidly changing waterways.
Acclaimed chef, author and television personality Lara Lee embarks on a deeply personal journey across Indonesia in Beyond Bali: The World’s Most Exotic Islands (8 x 1 hr, Southern Pictures for SBS, Australia), offering a fresh, intimate perspective on the nation’s rich culinary and cultural heritage. And broadcaster and adventurer Ben Fogle fulfils a long-held dream in Ben Fogle’s Chinese Adventure (3 x 1½ hr, Blink Films for Channel 5, UK) as he embarks on a once-in-a-lifetime journey to China, delving into an epic 3,000-year tale of how China got to now, how it sees itself in the world and how it’s shaping the future for us all.
With multiple unscripted and scripted formats already in development or recently launched in Asia, All3Media International will be looking to build on that success with a diverse line-up of adaptation opportunities available at ATF. Studio Lambert’s bold social experiment Rise and Fall, which was recently adapted as a celebrity version in India for Amazon MX Player has been recently crowned the most-watched show in the Indian streamer’s history. The format sees a diverse group of contestants split into two groups: rulers, who live in an opulent penthouse, and grafters, who are confined to the basement. Across a series of challenges, those at the bottom must find a way to make it to the top, as only the most powerful can win the game.
Also heading to ATF is IDTV’s global format phenomenon The Traitors, fresh from scoring huge ratings and critical acclaim for its recent UK celebrity version, new adaptations in Latin America, and a second series in India. A psychological reality competition with addictive gameplay – fuelled by treachery, deceit and betrayal – The Traitors has won multiple Emmys, BAFTAs and Asian Academy Creative Awards, as the format continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
Studio Lambert’s innovative entertainment format The Circle asks provocative questions about identity and the way we live our lives through social media as a group of strangers live in one modern building and compete to win a cash prize – but only interact with each other through a bespoke social media platform. In Objective Media Group’s adrenaline-fuelled, BAFTA-winning game show The Cube, contestants take on physical challenges that appear to be simple, until they are played within the nerve-wracking confines of The Cube. And Studio Lambert’s Gogglebox, recently launching in Mongolia, is ready to capture more national conversations, presenting the highlights of the week’s television intercut with footage of ordinary people watching it at home.
Lion TV’s innovative dating format Sexy Beasts explores whether love can blossom based solely on people’s character, using Hollywood-style prosthetics to transform people into demons, monsters, werewolves, aliens and more before they go on a first date, taking their real looks out of the equation.
A collection of scripted formats will be available for adaptation, including two series (26 scripts) of Step Dave, which centres on an ordinary guy whose life is turned upside down when he meets the love of his life – and her three children. Originally produced by New Zealand producer South Pacific Pictures, Astro’s Malaysian version recently took home an Asian Academy Creative Award. This light-hearted, feel-good family drama format demonstrates one of the realities of modern life – that families come in all shapes and sizes.
Format rights will also be available for Company Pictures’ long-running, BAFTA and Emmy winning comedy drama format Shameless. Recently adapted for Sony SAB in India under the title Itti Si Khushi, this adaptation received multiple nominations at the Indian Television Awards including Best Series, Best Actress- TV Drama and Best Actor -TV Drama . Written and created by Paul Abbott (and produced for 10 series in the UK and 11 series in the US) and with 139 scripts available, Shameless follows the rollercoaster lives and loves of a big, rather unconventional family as they experience life on the edge.
