Whatever Pictures unveils scripted slate for MIPCOM

October 10, 2025 by TVA Editor

Finnish production company Whatever Pictures today unveils its slate of high-end, scripted series ahead of MIPCOM, featuring the action-driven crime thriller series Transporter (6×45’). Iceland’s Glassriver has boarded the series as co-producers and broadcaster Síminn has commissioned the series for Iceland. MTV has acquired the series for Finland.

The growing slate of globally resonant scripted series follows the recent launch of Whatever Pictures, formed by the merger of Finnish scripted independent production companies, Whatevergroup and Mutant Koala Pictures.

Directed by Jussi Hiltunen (Law of the Land) and written by Aleksi Puranen (Evilside) alongside Matti Laine (Musta valo, The Paradise), Solina Riekkola (Roba, Syke) and Avi Heikkinen (Roba, Poissa), Transporter is a six-part, high-stakes thriller that follows transplant coordinator Niina on a gripping, life-or-death race against time. When the organ meant for her sister is hijacked mid-transport with only four hours before it expires, Niina faces criminals and a personal reckoning in an unforgiving winter landscape as she must track down the thieves and uncover the motive behind the theft before time – and her sister’s life – runs out.

Combining the intensity of Nordic noir with high-stakes urgency, the series brings a bold perspective to Nordic storytelling. Transporter balances between the medical drama and crime thriller genres, appealing to international audiences. Whatever Pictures’ CEO Antti Kaarlela (Susikoira Roi, Kriittinen piste), and Creative Producer Antti Kairakari (Evilside) will collaborate with Glassriver CEO Andri Ómarsson on the series.

In addition to Transporter, Whatever Pictures has unveiled its selection of scripted series, tailored for global, mainstream audiences. Finnkampen is an alternate-history political drama set in 1980s Sweden, where marginalized Finnish immigrants form a radical underground movement, echoing the unrest around the assassination of Olof Palme.

Also to be featured on the slate is the North Karelia–set thriller Between Three Fires, a tense story of a Finnish Border Guard who secretly smuggles refugees, balancing loyalty, love, law and betrayal on the EU’s eastern frontier.

The international thriller Ice House is co-written by Marteinn Thorisson and Aleksi Puranen and produced with UK and Nordic partners. The series follows a professional assassin who turns protector when he spares his 12-year-old target, unravelling a conspiracy that stretches from Spain to Finland. The series has already secured several financial partners globally.

Finally, Whatever Pictures unveils the feel-good rural comedy, Crème de la Crème created by Jukka Vidgren (Heavy Trip, Heavier Trip). The series centres around a struggling farmer who stumbles into running a peer-to-peer sperm bank. Styled as Letterkenny meets Silicon Valley, the series brings a lighter counterpoint to the company’s darker slate: “seize the opportunity, sell what you have.”

The varied slate reflects Whatever Pictures’ ambition to collaborate with top-tier writers, directors, and creative talent, both locally and internationally, developing projects from the ground up to ensure originality, strong concepts, and market viability. The company also partners with trusted co-producers, sales agents, and broadcasters, building long-term relationships based on trust, creativity, and shared ambition. The company will produce original productions, co-productions, provide production services and post-production coordination.

Antti Kaarlela, CEO at Whatever Pictures says: “Whatever Pictures’ slate for MIPCOM reflects our commitment to Nordic storytelling, with global appeal. We are proud to present this varied slate of dramas, feel-good comedies and thought-provoking scripted series, positioned to connect with audiences around the world.”
