Leading animation production company The Hive Studio has announced its successful crowdfunding campaign for the new gothic animated, long-form TV pilot The Vampair, which has raised over £125,704 and counting. The Vampair is the new animated series developed with internationally acclaimed animator and YouTube creator Daria Cohen.
The campaign for the animated indie, which launched on 6th July, has surpassed its initial pledged goal of £117,054. The production company is now exploring opportunities with global partners and broadcasters.
The Vampair was born out of a series of intricately animated music videos by Daria and has since grown into a vibrant creative universe with a massive online following of millions of fans. In particular The Vampair has won over viewers with its unique blend of gothic aesthetics, theatrical music, visual storytelling, and macabre yet comic charm.
The creative partnership combines Cohen’s unique gothic vision with the cinematic expertise of The Hive Studio, known globally for its award-winning animation and emotionally rich storytelling. Leading from The Hive is Amit R. Gicelter, the Oscar-nominated creative producer who has an extensive history of world leading productions and a deep appreciation for narrative-driven animation.
Beyond YouTube, Cohen engages her audience with behind-the-scenes content, live streams, and art videos, creating a vibrant creative community around her work. Her fans have long called for a longer-format adaptation — and now, with their support, it’s finally within reach.
Cohen has developed The Vampair into a full-blown narrative universe that’s become one of the most recognizable indie gothic properties on the web. As her fanbase has grown there have been louder and louder calls for her to make a full-length adaptation. With this new partnership she is able to bring the skills, expertise and capacity to make her fans request a reality, all whilst retaining the distinctive spirit of the original work.
Alongside Amit Gicelter and The Hive Studios, in order to bring The Vampair Pilot series to life Cohen has assembled an extraordinary team of creative collaborators, each a celebrated force in their field.
Lending their voices and musical magic are icons of gothic and theatrical soundscapes: dark cabaret legend Aurelio Voltaire, whose songs helped inspire the original Vampair shorts; and Paul Shapera, mastermind of the Shaperaverse, known for his genre-bending sci-fi operas and immersive audio narratives.
Vocal talents include Lauren Osborn, a dynamic performer whose work in Shapera’s operas has earned her a devoted cult following, and Krystal LaPorte, a seasoned voice actor known for her wide-ranging performances in anime, video games, and original animation such as Hazbin Hotel.
Rounding out the team is Maxwell Atoms, the visionary creator of The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, who brings his signature blend of macabre humour and heart. Together, this ensemble promises to deliver a gothic animated series as rich, stylish, and unforgettable as “The Night” itself.
