Keshet International (KI) has announced that German public broadcaster ZDF has commissioned a local adaptation of its hit scripted relationship format Mythological Ex. The six-part romantic comedy is being produced for ZDFneo by Keshet Germany under the working title My Ex.
Originally created, written and directed by Sigal Avin (Losing Alice, The Champion) and produced by Mosh Danon (Inosan Productions) for Keshet 12, Israel’s most-watched TV channel, Mythological Ex (Ex Mitologi) playfully explores the question: can your one true love be someone from your past?
Jasmin Verkoyen, Commissioning Editor, ZDF (Films and Series II) says, “My Ex is a heartfelt and modern love story that explores how looking back can sometimes be the key to moving forward. With sharp writing, emotional authenticity and a charismatic lead, this six-part ZDFneo series blends humour, heart, and a touch of magic into a binge-worthy experience. Glossy, stylish, witty, smart, and universally relatable — My Ex is a must-watch for anyone who’s ever wondered: what if the one that got away was actually the one? With its modern tone and contemporary take on romance, My Ex is a perfect fit for ZDFneo’s progressive profile and younger audiences.”
Keshet Germany’s German adaptation for ZDFneo centers on Ivy, a successful and charismatic interior designer in her mid-thirties who is told by a modern-day oracle that she’s met the love of her life! The catch? She already broke up with them. And if she doesn’t figure out who it is by the end of summer, she’ll be alone forever. So, Ivy embarks on a journey through her past relationships in search of true love—a journey on which she also gets to know herself better.
Leading the cast of My Ex is celebrated Palina Rojinski (Where’s Wanda, Bibi Blocksberg) as Ivy, who is joined by a strong ensemble including Helgi Schmid (Sleeping Dog, How to Dad), August Wittgenstein (Das Boot, The Crown), Caro Cult (Biohackers, Babylon Berlin), Max Schimmelpfennig (Crystal Wall, Loving Her), Caro Daur (All for Ella, Die Discounter), and Alli Neumann (Kleo, Jerks).
Written by Elena Hell (22 Bahnen, Sisi) and Marcus Pfeiffer (Victor Bringt’s, Beckenrand Sheriff), My Ex will be directed by the award-winning Tarek Roehlinger (Crystal Wall, Maxton Hall: The World Between Us). The six-part romcom is produced by Tina Hechinger and Christina Christ, Axel Kühn for Keshet Germany. Commissioning editor at ZDF is Jasmin Verkoyen, alongside Christiane Meyer zur Capellen as coordinator for ZDFneo. My Ex began filming this week in the Czech Republic ahead of its 2026 premiere.
Christina Christ, co-MD of Keshet Germany and producer of My Ex adds, “After years of passionate work – based on Sigal Avin’s brilliant format – bringing My Ex to life feels like a dream come true. With the perfect team both in front of and behind the camera, we’re creating a series that will move hearts, spark laughter and gift audiences a true “summer of love”. We’re especially thankful to collaborate once again with the wonderful team at ZDF — whose trust and support make this journey all the more meaningful.”
This latest commission builds on Keshet Germany’s growing track record of high-profile and distinctive productions, including the recently launched satire Messiah Superstar (JOYN), also based on a Keshet format; the critically acclaimed and award-winning drama Der Schatten (ZDFneo); and the German adaptation of the Israeli black comedy Stockholm, known locally as Unter Freunden Stirbt Man Nicht (You Don’t Die Among Friends) (RTL+). The company’s slate reflects its commitment to bold storytelling, innovative formats, and high-end production values across both linear and streaming platforms.
Keren Shahar, KI’s CEO says, “Following the international success of Der Schatten, we’re excited to see Keshet Germany partnering once again with ZDFneo to bring this charming, relatable and timeless Keshet romcom to German audiences. It’s great to see Keshet Germany establishing itself so quickly as delivering quality scripted shows, a mix of KI’s catalogue and originals, with more to come from Christina, Tina and her team.”
The Keshet format Mythological Ex has also been adapted in the US for CBS and in Mexico for Televisa.
