Leading independent distributor All3Media International has announced four new versions of Two Brothers Pictures hit format Liar are in development bringing the total number of versions of Liar to 15.
A version is in production in Botswana with Botswana Ignite, marking the first time this acclaimed scripted format has travelled to Africa. This adaption is also the first time one of All3Media International’s scripted formats will be produced in Sub Saharan Africa. Additionally, new versions of Liar are in development in Europe, Middle East and Asia.
These new versions join 10 territories where the acclaimed scripted format has previously launched including India, Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Greece, Slovakia, Turkey, Malaysia and Georgia. Originally produced in the UK by Two Brothers Pictures for ITV, Liar explores themes of consent and modern-day gender politics, as it portrays the experiences of two people whose initial attraction has far reaching consequences.
Executive Producer and Project Director of Botswana Ignite, Duncan Irvine, (former founder and owner of Rapid Blue) said he’s incredibly happy to be bringing this compelling drama to the Botswana Ignite project. It is an international drama with phenomenal pedigree and with it being produced by an incredible team will provide a not only great drama series to Botswana, but a great opportunity for the Botswana film industry to learn and springboard from.
Maartje Horchner, EVP Content at All3Media International commented “The universally resonant storytelling and adaptability of Liar is once again made notable through these four new versions. With multiple international partners previously producing impeccably crafted and compelling adaptations of Two Brothers Pictures’ format, we have every confidence these latest versions of Liar will deliver universal and culturally resonant viewing for new audiences.”
All3Media International’s scripted formats have seen notable success. The Malaysian version of Liar won Best Adaptation of an Existing Format at the Asian Academy Creative Awards last year. This year, Angela Black premiered in Spain on Atresmedia, while previous successes include Masoom, the Indian adaptation of Blood, which launched as Disney+ Hotstar’s top Hindi series. Additionally, Mithya (the Indian version on Cheat) and Kafkas (the Indian version of Dark Money) both have received widespread critical acclaim and awards recognition.
