Chinese superstar Zhou Xun has always been known for her starring roles in films like Painted Skin, Suzhou River, Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress and The Flying Swords of Dragon Gate, and she is the first Chinese actor to win a “Grand Slam” of the three most prestigious Chinese film acting awards – the Golden Horse Awards, the Hong Kong Film Awards and the Golden Rooster Awards.
However, do you know that Zhou Xun is equally prolific on the small screen? Despite taking on much less TV roles, some of her most iconic roles include Huang Rong in 2003’s The Legend of the Condor Heroes, and as well as the titular role in 2018’s popular Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace.
This year, fans of Zhou Xun are excited and full of anticipation over another upcoming television series starring role in Imperfect Victim, which is slated to air on iQIYI. This is an exciting and challenging role for Zhou Xun, who plays the lead role Lin Han in Imperfect Victim, a lawyer who finds herself in a precarious position of representing a client accused of sexual assault.
In this series, actress Lin Yun plays Zhao Xun, a woman who is sexually assaulted in the workplace. While choosing to remain silent initially, she eventually files a police report against her assaulter after five days. The accused hires Lin Han, played by Zhou Xun, to defend himself in court. Lin Han does her best as an outstanding lawyer to overthrow all evidence presented by the victim and clear her client’s name.
Afterwards, the accused hires Lin Han once again, this time to file a suit against the victim for defamation. As the case develops, the victim is doxxed online, harassed and her career and personal life is put on the line. Struggling between professionalism, objectivity and her own morals, Lin Han is placed in a challenging position that she has never faced before.
Fans of Zhou Xun are extremely excited over this upcoming role for two main reasons: Zhou Xun’s rare appearance in a television series, given her amazing track record of picking up starring and memorable roles when acting for the small screen; as well as the relevant material of the show which explores the sexual harassment faced by women in the workplace and how victims are often disregarded and subject to misogyny and scrutiny when their case is made public. Zhou Xun’s character is put at the forefront of this and it is exciting to see how the plot develops along with the choices that her character will make.
Imperfect Victim is expected to air soon on iQIYI, with release dates yet to be announced.
