Fremantle, Revolution Films (A Mighty Heart, This England, 24 Hour Party People), Passenger (True Detective, Outlaw King, Catch-22) and Anonymous Content (The Revenant, Mr Robot, Maniac) have today announced that they are collaborating on a new six-part drama, Fall of the God of Cars. 

The series is written and directed by Revolution Films’ Michael Winterbottom and tells the story of Carlos Ghosn, the Brazilian-Lebanese CEO of Nissan and Renault, who was arrested in Japan and one year later orchestrated his own escape to Beirut, hidden in a music case on a private jet.  

Emmy Award winning Tony Shalhoub (Monk, The Marvellous Miss Maisel) stars as Carlos Ghosn. The series was originally developed by Michael Winterbottom, Alfonso Cuaron, and Anonymous Content. Richard Brown serves as executive producer on behalf of Passenger and Fremantle, Melissa Parmenter serves as executive producer for Revolution Films, and Violaine Etienne serves as executive producer for Anonymous Content. David Levine and Garrett Kemble will oversee the project on behalf of Anonymous Content.

Winterbottom is the extraordinarily prolific and versatile filmmaker behind Palm D’Or nominees Welcome to Sarajevo, Wonderland and 24 Hour Party People in addition to many highly acclaimed films including A Cock and Bull Story, Code 46, The Killer Inside Me and Golden Bear winning In This World. Revolution Films has a track record of making award winning television including The Trip, Red Riding, Everyday, The Road to Guantanamo, The Unloved and Go Now – all of which were nominated for BAFTAs.  

Fremantle recently partnered with Brown and Winterbottom on the critically acclaimed Sky Original drama This England. In December 2022, Fremantle announced the acquisition of Passenger, with the independent production company becoming a fully owned label, sitting within Fremantle’s Global Drama division under the leadership of CEO of Global Drama, Christian Vesper. As part of the deal, Richard Brown has also taken on a new creative role across Fremantle’s Global Drama division to help drive Fremantle’s efforts in the development and production of TV and film projects such as this.
