Boutique co-producer and distributor About Premium Content (APC) has secured its first international broadcast deals for highly anticipated British drama The Light in the Hall, following a successful launch at MIPCOM 2022.
New broadcasters on board include BritBox in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, Canal+ Group’s Polar+ in France, AMC Networks International Southern Europe in Spain and Portugal, RTP2 in Portugal and RTS in Switzerland. The suspenseful series premiered on Channel 4 in the UK on Wednesday 4th January, receiving critical acclaim and becoming the most watched Drama series on Commercial BVOD that month.
The Light in the Hall (6 x 52’) was coproduced by Duchess Street Productions, Triongl and APC Studios (UK). The English-language version of the series was produced in association with Channel 4 and Sundance Now for broadcast in the UK and North America, Australia and New Zealand respectively. The thriller is written by Regina Moriarty (Murdered by my Boyfriend) and directed by Andy Newbery (Keeping Faith) and Chris Forster (Hidden), and stars Alexandra Roach (Killing Eve, Sanditon, No Offence), Iwan Rheon (Misfits, Game of Thrones) and Joanna Scanlan (No Offence, After Love).
The series, shot in English and Welsh, follows three characters connected by the murder of a teenage girl in a small Welsh town. Joe Pritchard, a quiet, unassuming gardener, was arrested for Ela’s murder after her DNA was found at his caravan. Then 18 years later, he is released on parole. For journalist Cat Donato, one of Ela’s best friends before a silly teenage squabble got in the way, it is a chance to write the true events surrounding the murder. For Sharon, Ela’s mother, who has never stopped grieving the loss of her daughter, it is a chance to confront the man who killed her child and to give her a proper burial. If Joe Pritchard did kill Ela, why did he do it, and where is the body?
Laurent Boissel and Emmanuelle Guilbart, Joint-CEOs and Co-Founders at APC, said: “Participating in the adventure of The Light in the Hall from production stage marked an exciting milestone in our studio’s development and we are now delighted to secure the first sales for the series. The talented creative team behind The Light in the Hall has created a gripping thriller which leaves both the victim’s mother and the viewer similarly desperate for answers. It’s been great to see UK audiences already engaging with and enjoying the series, and we’re sure new audiences from all over the world will be as captivated by the series as we are.”
