CJ ENM Hong Kong Ltd (CJ ENM HK), together with Central Motion Pictures Corporation (CMPC) and Deepwaters Digital Support Inc. have announced plans to co-produce an island-culture-based scripted series in Kinmen in 2023 at a joint press event today.
Supported by Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) and Kinmen County’s Magistrate Yang Cheng-wu, this joint collaboration is scheduled to commence production in the second half of 2023, and will have the top global creator leaders joining forces to remake a popular CJ ENM IP in Taiwan and present them to a global audience. It is hoped that the world can see the beautiful scenery and cultural heritage of Taiwan and Kinmen through CJ ENM HK’s expertise in content production and its strength in international marketing.
The press announcement event for this new project was attended by Michael Jung, Managing Director of CJ ENM Hong Kong; Mickey Ong, Senior Vice President and General Manager of CJ ENM Hong Kong; Lee Lau, Head of Production of CJ ENM Hong Kong; Lin Kun-huang, General Manager of Central Motion Pictures Corporation; Paul Yang, General Manager of Deepwaters Digital Support Inc; Lee Ming-che, CEO of TAICCA and other distinguished guests.
Michael Jung, Managing Director, CJ ENM Hong Kong said, “CJ ENM Hong Kong has been actively expanding our local language productions for the global streaming audience in recent years. We are very encouraged by the warm reception towards our first two Taiwan-collaborated Mandarin-scripted original series “Mum, Don’t Do That” and “The Amazing Grace of Σ”, which premiered this year. Hence, we are delighted to continue our venture into Mandarin-language original content with another great collaboration in Taiwan in 2023.”
He added, “With the collaboration of top-notch production talents from Korea and Taiwan, we aim to raise the bar of quality drama content and production. We are looking forward to working on a new, amazing production based on CJ ENM’s IP, and localizing the adaptation with Kinmen’s unique island culture.”
Paul Yang, General Manager of Deepwaters Digital Support Inc said: “This three-way co-produced drama series is currently in the pre-production work led by Deepwaters Digital Support Inc and CJ ENM Hong Kong. The series and cast will be announced through a press conference which will be held in the first quarter of 2023. We hope that the three parties will continue this collaboration to develop and co-invest in the production of original and adapted content, with CJ ENM Hong Kong working with related international production houses, international streaming and linear platform channels.”
Drama series produced by Taiwan have flourished greatly in recent years, with the quality of content and buzz-worthiness continuing to achieve new heights. The biggest advantage of Taiwanese film and television works lies in their rich creativity and freedom in expression, as well as relatively reasonable production costs. This upcoming collaboration by CJ ENM HK, CMCP and Deepwaters Digital Support Inc, aims to bring Taiwanese productions onto the international stage through CJ ENM HK’s global marketing channels and packaging.
Yang shared, “Central Motion Pictures Corporation has been actively creating an international standard production environment in the past few years. Both the production software and hardware at Central Motion Pictures Corporation’s film studio in Wai Shuangxi and the Central Taiwan Film Studios in Wufeng have been upgraded to production specifications required by international streaming platforms and large-scale film productions.”
“This collaboration project with CJ ENM Hong Kong is only the first step and we look forward to more in-depth cooperation between the two parties in the future. In addition to continuing to co-produce creative films and series, we also hope that through the international influence of CJ ENM Hong Kong, we can showcase Taiwan’s first-class international film and television co-production capabilities and attract large-scale multinational film and television projects from Thailand and South Korea to work with Central Motion Pictures Corporation’s film studio for filming as well as pre-and post-production works.”
