Audiences can soon look forward to new drama series from the likes of Angelababy, Lai Kuan Lin, Esther Yu, Shen Yue and Dylan Wang, with iQiyi’s new slate of romance dramas.

The leading Asian streaming platform today announced its “Sweet On” drama slate, introducing five new original drama series which will be launched over the next few months globally on iQIYI International (www.iq.com and apps) across 191 countries and regions.

These series will be headlined by 10 of the most popular Chinese stars in recent years.

Love The Way You Are 爱情应该有的样子

An urban romance series stars Angelababy杨颖 and Lai Kuan Lin赖冠霖 from Wanna One.

Yin Yike 尹亦可 (played by Angelababy) is a 35-year-old career woman who prides herself on being able to handle everything in life. She reunites with Xu Guang Xi 徐光兮 (played by Lai Kuan Lin), a young man who used to visit her house for free food as a little boy. Swoon over Xu’s sweet antics as he tries to pursue Yin, and grow into a mature adult that is worthy of the strong and independent woman he has fallen in love with.

Love Between Fairy And Devil 苍兰决 

A wuxia romance drama featuring Esther Yu 虞书欣 (Moonlight) and Dylan Wang 王鹤棣 (2018 Meteor Garden). 

Low-ranked fairy Xiao Lan Hua 小兰花 (played by Esther Yu) is the reincarnation of a girl from an immortal tribe that had been vanquished by the demon lord Dong Fang Qing Cang 东方青苍 (played by Dylan Wang) 10,000 years ago. In her current incarnation, she accidentally revives the defeated demon lord, who now wants to sacrifice her immortal soul to unleash the curse placed on him. However, in the process of their battles, the heartless demon lord gradually finds himself falling for the gentle young fairy.

See You Again 超时空罗曼史

A time-travel historical fantasy series starring Hu Yi Tian 胡一天 (Hello, The Sharpshooter, A Love So Beautiful) and Chen Yu Qi 陈钰琪 (Ashes of Love). 

Xiang Qinyu 向秦羽 (played by Hu Yitian) is an actor in the 1930s, but ends up time-traveling to the modern era after being shot on set. The arrogant movie star meets unknown screenwriter Jin Ayin 金阿银 (played by Chen Yu Qi), and their encounter sets them on the path to love.

Mr. BAD 我的反派男友 

A fantasy comedy series featuring Chen Zhe Yuan 陈哲远 (Handsome Siblings, Our Secret) and Shen Yue 沈月 (2018　Meteor Garden, A Love So Beautiful), directed by Lee Ching Jung (HIStory series). 

A reversal on the typical love story follows a young woman named Nan Xing 南星 (played by Shen Yue) who loves to write. While making a wish, she accidentally summons the villain from her own book, Xiao Wu Di 萧无敌 (played by Chen Zhe Yuan). 

Love in Time 我的秘密室友 

A sci-fi romance series adopting from the popular Taiwanese drama Meet Me @ 1006. The show is directed by Zhao Jin Tao (赵锦焘) and stars Yang Xuwen 杨旭文 and Xiang Hanzhi 向涵之. 

The story revolving around a lawyer who hits rock bottom after taking on a murder case involving a judo instructor. He retires to a mysterious apartment where he starts seeing the shadow of a woman.

Among the headliners, eight of them (Angelababy, Lai Kuan Lin, Esther Yu, Dylan Wang, Hu Yi Tian, Chen Yu Qi, Chen Zhe Yuan and Shen Yue) have been appointed international ambassadors to front the 2022 “Sweet On” slate.

Leading the Chinese entertainment wave, iQIYI has produced romantic dramas that have been recognised as cultural phenomena and stimulated Internet buzzwords such as “Sweet and Pampered” (甜宠), “Heart-Wrenching” (虐心), “Feeding Dog Food” (撒狗粮) and “CP Overdose” (嗑 CP).

The annual “Sweet On” slate announcement is an original romantic drama collection of iQIYI and has garnered over 100 million global views since its launch in 2021.

2022 Sweet On theater integrates elements of Oriental mythology, light sci-fi, comedy, fantasy into its romance core, leading the sweet love to take off with imagination.

Love the Way You Are depicts a modern love model going beyond the barrier of age; Love Between Fairy And Devil reveals the collision between different concepts in a love fairy tale with great oriental imagination.

See You Again tells a cross-century love story between an actor and a screenwriter; Mr. BAD travels through dimensions and presents a fresh romance between a girl writer and the villain character she created; Love in Time revolves around the experiences of a lawyer and a rookie reporter in parallel time and space, and reproduces various adventures in intertwined lives.
