Taipei-LA based, production & distribution shingle, Organic Media Group (OMG) along with local Australian production partners, completed post today on a half-hour comedy pilot called WTFitness.
Described as The Office meets Parks & Recreation set in a commercial Melbourne fitness centre, Organic Media Group has gone out in advance to local Australian streaming platforms, who have been awaiting the new spec series pilot. OMG expects a local platform partner could easily complete the financing or certainly be a solid anchor in combination with other English speaking territory presales.
Created by actor/filmmaker Charles Jazz Terrier (Legacies, Occupation) of Fantome Bay Pictures and developed in conjunction with award-winning filmmaker Nicholas Potaris, WTFitness is proposed to be an eight-part series and boasts an ensemble cast including the attachment of Christopher Kirby, Kat Stewart, Jonny Brugh, Trevor Jamieson and Charles Jazz Terrier.
Terrier’s focus on creating a genuine Australian workplace comedy whilst exploring real diversity issues has enabled Terrier to partner with local Producer Amie Casey of Red Empire Productions whose comedy work includes the successful Network 10 franchise, Stage Mums. Casey says, “Our motto at Red Empire is to take on projects that are edgy and boundary-pushing and comedy is the best way to bridge those aspects of life in a meaningful yet fun way. ”
Terrier explains, “In WTFitness, we saw a unique opportunity to marry the Aussie sense of humour with a series that navigates both Australian and universal social and economic issues, with the content in some cases acting as a teaching mechanism between the situation and the audience. The series has been created in the midst of a global pandemic, I wanted the content to be representative of that and inclusive for all involved, and those watching from home.”
Executive Producer Steve Chicorel claims he feels the comedy series can bridge the gap between the Australian domestic and foreign territories, “WTFitness has that special blend of unique, dry, Aussie humor combined with real-world situations and characters that are relatable universally. So, like the hit series “Kath & Kim” which has done so well internationally, we have high hopes for WTFitness.”
With intentions to start production later this year in Melbourne, led by local production partners Fantome Bay Pictures and Red Empire Productions, Organic Media Group plans to deliver season one of WTFitness by Q1 2023.
