Astro delivers yet again with a story that challenges societal expectations and perceptions. Tujuh Hari di Bawah Matahari is a short film that tells the story of a young man who, against the odds, finds a way to reunite with his family.
In what seems to be your typical Raya ad that talks about persevering through tough times with grit, tenacity and determination, there are deeper social issues that the film shifts its focus to. Materialism, the at times brutal nature of social media, the value of companionship, the love of family, the raw emotion of an individual that’s crying inside for help but won’t ask for it.
We live in a world that, in instances, defines one by their financial status, appearance, material possessions or mannerisms. Society can be quick to judge and label; that might lead to a person feeling abandoned and alone. The film’s story takes a deeper dive into these societal issues and highlights how people shouldn’t be quick to judge a situation or person based on what they see on social media.
“Astro has always used and will continue to use its platform as a voice for good to inspire people. Tujuh Hari Di Bawah Matahari continues this long-standing tradition and encapsulates our mission for the year.” said Ezura Shazween, Senior Assistant Vice President of Marketing.
On working with the film’s director, she added, “Razaisyam Rashid is deemed as best person to direct the short film due to his earlier credentials including Projek: Anchor SPM, Pusaka and Sembil9n. His tendency to go for the extraordinary fits our aspiration embedded in our short film’s narrative. His unique take on filmmaking transpires throughout the film evidently.”
“The film features a diverse cast including those with years of experience in the entertainment industry alongside the new faces of today’s drama and film. Plus, we also have a furry cast member that brings a significant shift towards Emil’s character,” said Ezura.
Shiraz Faruqi, Naga DDB Tribal’s Creative Director added, “Shifting the focus to underlying social issues was always the intent. And I’m glad we had the opportunity to present an insightful story that speaks to people in a relevant way. Most importantly, it continues to drive the brand’s efforts in opening people’s minds to new perspectives.
