Netflix announced it has acquired the exclusive rights to broadcast CJ ENM HK and Taiwanese production company, Butt Mountain’s Chinese language series Mom, Don’t Do That! for 190 countries around the world. This series also marks the return of Taiwanese singer-actress also known as ‘super-hot mom’, Ms. Billie Wang to the small screen after 15 years.

The series received tremendous attention the moment it was announced as it is produced by the team behind award-winning series On Children and also featuring a group of GOLDEN (Bell and Horse Awards) members. The series is co-directed by Chen Wei-ling (Best Director) and Li Jun-hong (Best Editor) starring Kou Hsi-shun (Best Actor), Alyssa Chia (Best Actress), Alice Ko (Best Actress), Chris Wu (Best Actor), Austin Lin (Best Actor) and other notable actors like Billie Wang and Vicky Tsang. The story explores whether a widowed middle-aged woman has the right to pursue new love, reshaping perceptions of a ‘middle-aged widow’ and will overturn traditional mindsets and provoke conversations in today’s society. Billy Wang said, “I hope audiences all over the world will like our series!”

In the series Mom, Don’t Do That!, Billie is a widow who takes a different outlook on life and love after losing her husband played by Kou Hsi-shun. Audiences can look forward to seeing her in more than a hundred sets of costume changes in the series, turning the set into her personal walk-in wardrobe. In her pursuit of love, she crosses oceans to meet all her admirers from the internet and vows to stun them showing off a new sexier and comedic lady looking for love. “It’s a good change and it shows she values her husband’s feeling very much,” commented Kou Hsi-shun who plays the husband of Billie on his wife’s new bold look. Billie is thrilled that the series will be broadcast on Netflix soon and asked fans from all over the world to “Message me privately! Don’t be shy!” She also joked about leaving her social nickname hoping fans would follow her every move online.

Mom, Don’t Do That! is the second series from Alyssa Chia to be made available on Netflix. She commented, “In this partnership with an international player, I am really happy to have another different series of mine that can be seen by friends from all over the world.”

A great difference from Billie’s wide variety and sexy appearance, Alyssa and Alice Ko who played her daughters are in a sloppy look that was unrecognizable by all netizens, a breakthrough from the usual goddess image they were known for. Alyssa plays an otaku love novel author who dressed simple and is usually seen in dark and dull colours, even emphasizing her dark circle for the role. She even joked that she looks so ordinary that no one would recognize her on the road. Alice Ko played her younger sister and in order to break away from her clean and pure image, she even volunteered to bleach her hair and have a cute pudding hairstyle. She joked, “Even though this look is interesting and very manly looking, I think netizens will still be able to recognize me!”
