DCD Rights strikes deals for more than 120 hours of factual content

May 13, 2020 by editor tva

Leading UK-based distributor DCD Rights has sold more than 120 hours of factual and factual entertainment series.  The deal includes brand new series The Bone Detectives from Tern TV, part of Zinc Media, and a number of other titles from leading production companies.

The Bone Detectives, 8 x 60’, has sold to UR: Swedish Educational Broadcasting Company, Foxtel for Australia and New Zealand, and TVO and Knowledge Network in Canada.   From tales of battles, of misdemeanours, of disease or tragic accident, experts attempt to piece together the lives behind these bones, what happened to these people and how they came to be where they were found.

A second series from Tern TV, Nazi War Machines: Secrets Uncovered, 4 x 60’, makes its way to Histoire TV for France and French speaking Europe and Africa, Viasat History for Central & Eastern Europe, Russia & CIS, and Scandinavia, Foxtel for Australia and New Zealand and Prima Group in the Czech Republic.  Renowned war historian James Holland conducts an in-depth investigation into Germany’s four main areas of warfare during WWII – Air, Land, Sea and Weapons, and explores how the Nazis progression in technology pushed the Allies to go even further.

Wildest Places, 12 x 60’ (also available as 3 chapters of 4 episodes covering the Antarctic, Australia and the Pacific), a WildBear Entertainment production, will be broadcast on Spacewow in Italy, BBC Worldwide Australasia, RTL GEO Germany and on Discovery Asia Pacific, who have the Antarctic chapter.  The series explores some of the most incredible natural habitats on the planet and an extraordinarily diverse range of wildlife.

Six hours of The Black Files Declassified from Espiritus Productions and Spark TV have sold to ProSiebenSat.1 in Germany, Prima Group in the Czech Republic and Foxtel for Australia and New Zealand.  Behind the locked doors of the U.S. Government, classified project, The Black Files, operates on an annual 90-billion-dollar budget, the funds going towards covert operations taking place in and outside U.S. borders and involving domestic and foreign targets.

The Blitz: Britain On Fire, 3 x 60’, will air on Histoire TV for France and French speaking Europe and Africa, SBS Australia, Foxtel for Australia and New Zealand, TVO in Canada and Prima Group in the Czech Republic.  In this Windfall Films production, presenters Michael Buerk, Angellica Bell and Rob Bell look at the critical days in May 1941, when Britain was subjected to one of the most intense bombardments of the Blitz.

One hour special, Saving the Dinosaur Fish, from Atomized Studios, has sold to Axess TV Sweden, YLE Finland, and Prima Group in the Czech Republic.  Rory Moore, a marine biologist and wildlife photographer, is on a mission to save the sturgeon from extinction, a prehistoric fish and one of the most critically endangered species on earth.

Nicky Davies Williams, CEO at DCD Rights, commented, “Factual series with high production and entertainment values are very much in demand right now.  We’re delighted that these extremely strong examples of the factual genre have been acquired for global audiences.”
