Leading independent distributor all3media international has signed a number of key new collaborations in Europe for upcoming procedural detective drama Van der Valk.

The series is being filmed on location in Amsterdam, with Company Pictures producing and Dutch company NL Film co -producing.Starring Marc Warren (Safe, Mad Dogs) in the eponymous role and written by Chris Murray (Midsomer Murders, Lewis). Maimie McCoy (The Three Musketeers) features as Lucienne Hassell, his gutsy and fiercely competent right-hand woman.

Van Der Valk also stars Luke Allen-Gale (Dominion), Elliot Barnes-Worrell (Jericho), Darrell D’Silva (Strike Back), Emma Fielding (Les Misérables), Kees Boot (Judas), Reinout Bussemaker (Flight HS13), Frances Grey (Home Fires), Daniel Lapaine (The Durrells), Stephanie Leonidas (Snatch), Mike Libanon (Kill Switch) and Vineeta Rishi (Line of Duty).

The series will be executive produced by Michele Buck (Lewis, Parade’s End, Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple and Poirot) for Company Pictures and  Louise Pedersen (Blood) for all3media international and Sebastian Lückel for ARD Degeto with Sabine Brian as co- producer for NL Films and  Keith Thompson (Vikings, Foyle’s War) serving as series producer.

Germany’s ARD Degeto for Das Erste (ARD) and all3media international have co-commissioned the series.

all3media international today also announces pre-sales with France Télévisions (France) and ITV (UK) with NPO Netherlands as the Dutch broadcast partner. There will be 3 x 90 minutes films.

Inspired by the drama produced by Thames Television in the 1970s, which aired for five seasons, the last in 1992, the new Van der Valkwill once again centre on the investigations of Dutch detective Piet Van Der Valk in and around the city of Amsterdam.

The original Van der Valk, which was loosely based on the novels by Nicolas Freeling, provided British audiences with their first truly international detective – a complex, thoughtful and ‘real’ sleuth who tackled tough crimes against a picturesque Dutch backdrop. The new series will reimagine Van der Valk in the lively and enigmatic city of Amsterdam, following an engaging, unapologetic and street-smart detective as he leads his dynamic team in solving a raft of mysterious crimes using astute human observation and inspired detection.
