However her life takes an unexpected turn and she will do the impossible to reclaim her throne as La Reina del Sur.
Based on author and journalist Arturo Pérez-Reverte’s international bestseller, La Reina del Sur premiered in 2011 as an instant hit with audiences beyond the Spanish-language market. Season One finale outperformed all English and Spanish–language programming in its time slot. Still the highest rated series in Telemundo’s history, its success launched the network’s Super Series franchise. One of the most influential television dramas of its kind, the series inspired the hit English-language version Queen of the South, premiering its fourth season on the USA Network in 2019.
Created by Arturo Pérez-Reverte, La Reina del Sur is written by Roberto Stopello, Juan Marcos Blanco, Miguel Ferrari, and Jose Miguel Nuñez. Marcos Santana is the showrunner of the series, with Telemundo’s Martha Godoy (La Reina del Sur, S1, El Señor de los Cielos S1 and S2) as Executive Producer and Rodrigo Guerrero as Executive Producer for AG Studios. Telemundo has the exclusive rights in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, and Netflix has the exclusive SVOD rights for the rest of the world.
