Complete seasons of “The Handmaid’s Tale” to premiere across Asia on HBO

August 30, 2018 by TVA Editor

SINGAPORE – HBO Asia will be premiering the Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning hit drama series, The Handmaid’s Tale, on September 15 across Asia, exclusively on HBO GO and on HBO On Demand.

Viewers in Asia will be able to catch the complete first two seasons of the award-winning adaptation of acclaimed author, Margaret Atwood’s, award-winning classic novel anytime, anywhere, by downloading episodes on HBO GO. Additionally, all future seasons of The Handmaid’s Tale will be available in Asia on HBO’s online streaming and on-demand platforms throughout the life of the series.

The Handmaid’s Tale tells the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birth-rate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalist regime that treats women as property of the state.

As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred (Elisabeth Moss) is a Handmaid in the Commander’s household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate a devastated world. In this terrifying society where one wrong word could end her life, Offred navigates between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas and her fellow Handmaids – where anyone could be a spy for Gilead – with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her.

The Handmaid’s Tale feature an all-star cast, including Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning actress Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men, Top of the Lake), Joseph Fiennes (American Horror Story: Asylum, Shakespeare in Love), Yvonne Strahovski (Chuck, Dexter), Emmy Award-winning actress Alexis Bledel (Gilmore Girls), Madeline Brewer (Orange is the New Black), Amanda Brugel (Workin’ Moms),  Emmy Award-winning actress Ann Dowd (Compliance, The Leftovers), O-T Fagbenle (The Five), Max Minghella (The Mindy Project), and Samira Wiley (Orange is the New Black).

The Handmaid’s Tale was created for television by Bruce Miller (The 100), who is also the showrunner. Season Two of the series was executive produced by Miller, Warren Littlefield (Fargo), Moss, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears. The series is produced by MGM Television and internationally distributed by MGM.

Season Two of The Handmaid’s Tale was recently nominated for 20 Emmy Awards, a series record, and joins HBO Asia’s programming slate of Emmy award-winning and nominated titles – bringing the best of Hollywood to Asia. HBO’s Original programmes previously received a total of 108 nominations for the upcoming 70th Primetime Emmy Awards that will be announced on September 17 in Los Angeles.

Game of Thrones received 22 Primetime Emmy nominations this year, the most of any program. Westworld received 21 nominations, Barry received 13 nominations and Silicon Valley received 7 nominations. Other HBO nominees include Fahrenheit 451, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling, Insecure, Paterno and The Tale. All of the above programmes are available to stream on HBO GO and are also available on HBO On Demand.
