MasterChef Singapore to premiere on Channel 5

April 18, 2018 by TVA Editor

SINGAPORE – Global content investment and rights management company, Motion Content Group and Singapore media company, Mediacorp have confirmed that the forthcoming MasterChef Singapore will air on Mediacorp’s Channel 5.

Motion Content Group, part of GroupM, the world’s leading media management company, had earlier acquired the rights to produce and broadcast MasterChef Singapore from Endemol Shine Group.

The rights deal was negotiated by Fotini Paraskakis of Endemol Shine Group, Cathy Payne of Endemol Shine International and Steven Murphy of Motion Content Group, Asia Pacific.

As English rights were originally not available, the show was set to air on Channel 8. However, following further negotiations, MasterChef Singapore will now air for Singapore viewers on Channel 5 in English and reach a more diverse audience.

Mediacorp, as broadcast partner in this collaboration, is pleased to add MasterChef to its repertoire of food shows on its channels.

With over 10 local versions of MasterChef already in the Asia Pacific region, this highly popular and recognised format is ready to uncover amazing new talent in Singapore’s celebrated culinary scene.

The show will premiere later this year, produced by Beach House Pictures, with judges and key sponsors to be announced at a later date.

MasterChef Singapore’s nationwide casting call for contestants that has taken the country by storm since February is still open and will be extended until midnight on 6 April 2018.

Originally created by Franc Roddam, the format was revived as MasterChef Goes Large in 2005 by Shine TV in the UK. MasterChef is the most successful cookery television format in the world. Having been adapted locally in 54 countries, it is seen in over 200 countries and watched globally by over 250 million viewers. The MasterChef brand extends into a huge range of successful commercial activities across multiple platforms including extensive publishing, consumer products, live events, travel, digital and B2B activities.
