Hong Kong’s TVB is serving the local and global Chinese audience today in more than 200 counties with its robust OTT platform, TVB Anywhere. Despite being a leading role in the terrestrial TV industry, TVB has launched an improvised OTT for a smoother and flawless viewing anywhere to its overseas audience since 2017. This also means, keeping the piracy at bay according to General Manager of TVBI Company Limited, Mr. Desmond Chan.
“TVB Anywhere is the only legally authorised OTT service to play TVB’s full line-up of programmes abroad, providing high-definition in an unwavering, smooth viewing experience through TVB’s own brand of set-top boxes and mobile application,” he added. “Audience have all to gain as they are able to watch our content including TVB originals, comprising of over 30 LIVE streaming channels including TVB selected channels and third parties’ channels that we have acquired, and VOD from TVB library and partners’ content.
“Telco partnership is inevitable as TVB goes global, allowing audience to leverage on TVB Anywhere’s innovative approach to content and LIVE feed. Several telcos are incorporating TVB Anywhere service with their mobile and broadband services as an added value to customers already. Hence, localisation quickly becomes another foreseeable need to attract locals in the country and the Chinese aboard to better consume TVB content at their comfort,” he added.
With the rising popularity of OTT service in Thailand, TVB is collaborating with local partner, MVTV to provide a completely localised Thai version of TVB Anywhere service. The service provides a custom-made “Thai TVB Drama Channel” plus around 100 LIVE streaming channels, and massive localised videos on demand, categorised by Movie, Music, Sports, Variety, News and Kids etc. These contents are bundled as composition of the TVB Anywhere Thai pack; provide viewers’ multitude as TVB Anywhere serves as an aggregator. Furthermore, in the second quarter of this year, TVB Anywhere is lining up with ALCO, one of the biggest suppliers of tablets in North America to provide another form of bundling service of which TVB Anywhere Mobile Application is pre-installed on ALCO dedicated tablets.
What’s more? To cater for Mandarin-speaking Chinese, TVB Mandarin Jade Channel was launched on 19 March 2018 dedicated to provide the real-time and breaking Mainland China and International news to its audience. “Our target is to serve the Mainland Chinese who have immigrated overseas and some who may not understand the local language. The purpose is to provide them information about the country they have immigrated to for various reasons. For example, they may be living in Vancouver where English is the main language. We translate the local news to Mandarin for their better understanding on what is happening around them,” said Desmond.
“This is a 24-hour LIVE channel which serves four primetime zones across the globe including Eastern North American, Western North American, Australia, UK and Europe. We provide their local news at 7pm everyday in Mandarin followed by our signature programme from Mandarin Jade channel,” he added. The channel also provides many more genres in design, health, property, finance and education.
TVB Anywhere has further expanded its services to non-Chinese markets by foreign language dubbing or adding voice-over to its packaged programs such as Vietnamese, Khmer (Cambodian), Laos and more. With the multi-lingual programs provision to audiences from different countries, TVB Anywhere strives to provide an extraordinary viewing experience to worldwide audience.
