Globo today announced it has licensed the series Merciless to Pay TV channel RTL CRIME, tailored to male audiences. The thriller will premiere in July in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Luxembourg. The channel is part of the RTL Group, one of the largest media groups in Europe and one of the main television content producers worldwide.
As part of Globo Studios’ new generation of series, Merciless will be shown to the market during a special showcase held on February 20, at 6 p.m., at Zoo Palast 4. The event will also feature other productions such as Under Pressure, Jailers, Above Justice, and Thirteen Days Away From the Sun, which is still unreleased in the international market, among others.
Written by award-winner Glória Perez (‘Edge of Desire’ and ‘India – A Love story’), ‘Merciless’ plays around psychopath Edu (Bruno Gagliasso, ‘Rising Sun’). The good-looking, smart and articulate man behind a strain of murders that has baffled police, Edu uses his charm to hide his real and terrifying personality. The series reached a share of 37% and more than 22 million viewers per day in Brazil (Source: Ibope).
Another one of Globo’s series, Vade Retro, will also be featured at Berlinale on February 20. A mix between comedy and suspense, the production was handpicked to be featured at the Drama Series Days. Director Mauro Mendonça Filho will present Vade Retro, showing the first two episodes at 3 p.m. in Zoo Palast 5.
Berlinale 2018 will set the stage for Globo to showcase the strength of its high-quality productions featuring universal stories for different audiences worldwide. The company has been attending renowned film and television festivals, and its productions have already been shown in events such as Toronto International Film Festival (Canada), Punta del Este International Film Festival (Uruguay), Fantasporto (Portugal), Series Mania Australia, Series Fest in Denver (USA), Festival of Geneva (Switzerland), Series Mania, Mip Drama Screenings, and FIPA (all three in France). This is the second time Globo will attend Berlinale.
